WEEK 04 – Honor
This week we’re talking about the godly characteristic of HONOR.
Honor is a really amazing idea. It’s a fantastic quality. AND the Kingdom of God exudes it 100%.
God LOOOOVES honor.
It’s a little bit tough to define though just thinking about it, because it has so many different meanings. But here are a few that speak to us as we seek to develop more honor in our lives & as a core value.
DEFINITIONS OF HONOR
- High respect, esteem
- a privilege
- (verb) to regard with great respect
- (verb) pay public respect to
- (verb) to fulfill an obligation or to keep an agreement
THESE ARE ALL SO AMAZING when you think about our life with Jesus and representing Him well.
We are to (1) show high respect and esteem for our great God through our lives & lifestyles. Do our lives exude honor to God? Do they point peoples gaze towards him and make people think, “that person makes me think of Jesus.” or “ I wonder if they’re a Christian.”
If we truly have a high respect & esteem for our God, we will definitely obey His commands and do everything in our power to HONOR what He loves and wants & calls us to.
2. I can definitely see that we as Christians should see our entire lives as an HONOR, or as a privilege. It’s a privilege to know Jesus. It’s a privilege to have Him so involved in outlives. It’s a privilege to know & walk with our Maker.
Life with Jesus should make us so thankful & grateful ALL THE TIME because it is such an HONOR & a privilege. And if that is truly our perspective, our lives, our attitudes, our everything will communicate that we feel that way. That we HONOR Him with our lives because we feel like it’s such an HONOR to know Him.
3 & 4. This is just like #1 except in verb form, which comes with it this idea of action. We may honor Him in our hearts or with words, but do we truly hold Him in high enough respect in our minds & hearts that we go so far as to HONOR Him in our actions, in our behavior, in our words, in our reactions, in our motives. In public. In private. ALL of us.
5. I love this one. God is SO faithful. He holds up EVERY promise, every agreement He has ever made with & for us. So much so that it could even be said that He upholds them as if they were Obligations. Not that He is obligated to us. But that He obligates Himself to us, because He is THAT faithful.
Are we THAT faithful to HONOR & Obligate ourselves to our covenant with Him? Are our lives full of HONOR?
The last part of honor that I think of is how it changes our interactions with others. Jesus doesn’t just have HONOR as a characteristic like as in an idea. He exudes HONOR because He shows & gives HONOR to us, to others.
He goes low to rescue us. He bears our burdens. He rewards us in Heaven for the Christ-like things we do. He lifts others up and celebrates them, heals them, treats them as important.
Let’s let God develop this idea of HONOR towards Him as well as HONOR towards others, so much so that it becomes a part of who we are. And that people FEEL HONORED and lifted up by us all the time.

QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF –
- From my honest perspective, what in my life do I think truly honors God?
- From my honest perspective, what in my life do I think probably doesn’t honor God?
- What about from God’s perspective? Ask God… Is there anything in my life that you think honors you that I may not have thought of?
- Is there anything in my life that doesn’t honor you that you would like me to change?
- In what other ways would you like for my life to be full of HONOR…? Take some time to listen for His answer 🙂

Think about what it means to live a life of HONOR.
Ask God if there are any areas you need to surrender or change in order to reflect HIS nature of HONOR.
Let this theme guide your God time all week, and even your thoughts and conversation with Him through out your days, all week long.
Let Him speak to you about this idea of HONOR towards Him & others, and see what He says.
We’d love to hear your feedback, so hop into the devos conversation thread in SLACK & we’re excited to see what the Lord speaks to you this week.
