week 04 – Philippians 4
This week we’re talking about Philippians 4.
Here we are at the end of Paul’s letter to the Philippian people. Philippians 4 rounds out this incredible paradigm shift that He has been trying to help us make.
God’s Kingdom is totally different than how we’ve lived so far in the world. Different from everything we know & expect from life so far.
In fact, in a lot of ways it’s totally opposite. And in some ways it’s even completely unexpected.
Here at the end of the letter Paul does an ultimate foundation switch on us and lets us know that we don’t have to live on the sand anymore: the shifting sand of circumstances and our “happiness” or “strength” coming and going depending on what is going on around us.
Instead, in some of the most famous verses ever, like Philippians 4:4, Philippians 4:6-7, Philippians 4:8-9, and the biggie… Philippians 4:13… Paul teaches us that we have a much more solid foundation that will keep us from being tossed by the waves.
We can have joy, no matter what. We can have strength, no matter what. We can have peace, no matter what. We can be thankful, no matter what. HAHA… amazing!
Life with Christ introduces this incredible “BEYOND” where our eternity in Christ outweighs our temporary whatever here on Earth.
AND it has the power to dictate and EMPOWER our perspectives, attitudes, contributions, etc.
He has officially lifted us higher onto higher ground. We need only to follow Him there.
QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF
(1) Do I live & walk & breath on God’s higher ground, unhindered by any circumstance because of His JOY, PEACE, HOPE, STRENGTH, that weighs more than anything else on Earth?
(2) What circumstances am I currently letting knock me off of my higher ground with Jesus?
(3) How can Philippians 4 & this Higher Ground mentality shift my reality in my current circumstances?
(4) What am I thankful for in Christ, regardless of my circumstances? Make as big a list as you want to 🙂
(5) What else in Philippians 4 stick out to you?

QUOTES
“The pain of sacrificing our old selves is nothing compared to the joy of Christ living in us in our transformed lives.“
– A.W. Tozer
“Joy is the serious business of Heaven”
– C.S. Lewis
“Joy is distinctly a Christian word and a Christian thing. It is the reverse of happiness. Happiness is the result of what happens of an agreeable sort. Joy has its springs deep down inside. And that spring never runs dry, no matter what happens. Only Jesus gives that joy. He had joy, singing its music within, even under the shadow of the cross.”
– S.D. Gordon
WEEKLY FOCUS
This week, read through Philippians 4 as many times as you want to.
Think about what it means for you to live on His higher ground. Ask God if there are any areas in your life that need to become more like Him in this way.
Let this theme guide your God time all week, and even your thoughts and conversation with Him through out your days, all week long.
Let Him speak to you about this idea of Higher Ground, and see what He says.
We’d love to hear your feedback/thoughts/questions, so hop into the Bible Studies conversation thread in SLACK & we’re excited to see what the Lord speaks to you this week.
BLESSINGS!
