WEEK 09 – Worship
This week we’re talking about “Worship.”
Worship, Worship, ohhhhhh worship 🙂
Oh how we LOVE worship.
What a gift, am I right?
God is so amazing, and He has done SOOOOO much for us.
And He CONTINUES to do SOOOO much for us.
On top of all of that… He. Is. God.
He. Is. Worthy.
He. Is. The. Only. One. Worthy. Of. Praise.
And OH how we love to worship Him.
But let’s talk really quickly this week about worship.
It’s SO much more than a song or a worship set at church.
Worship really is a LIFESTYLE.
At base, worship is glorifying God in all that you do, in every little specific thing that you do, say, think, act, pray, ask, act, re-act, consider, plan, orchestrate, entertain, give your attention to, spend time on, create, pour out, etc…
Worship is actually happening ALL the time… it’s whatever we are giving our attention & praise to.
That’s why Jesus was so clear to make sure that we know that we cannot serve two masters. (Matthew 6:24)
So there really is SO much to be said about worship as a lifestyle, and making sure that our WHOLE SELVES are glorifying God.
But we could talk about that a 100 different ways.
Today, I want to talk specifically about worship as in actual time in musical praise and song, and glorifying Him that way…
It’s important to be spending time in worship (music, song, praise, etc.) more than just 1 time a week on Sundays at church.
It’s important for your soul. It’s important for your connection with Him. It’s important for your kids & families & friends to be spending time in worship WITH YOU too.
WHY NOT worship God at home?
WHY NOT worship God in your car?
WHY NOT worship God in the morning?
The big idea here is that we so often compartmentalize God & everything we do with God into a box labeled “Church” or “Sunday morning”.
But that is not Christianity. That is not following Jesus. That is not the FULLNESS of what Jesus was rescuing us back to.
Jesus was rescuing us back to, and IS WOOING US BACK TO, a LIFE lived with Him, where we do all of those “Church” & “Sunday morning” things, all the time with Him.
So think this week, try to place a time of worship (singing with an album, singing on your own with no music, playing music yourself & singing, etc.) in your daily routine.
Figure out a time to actually spend time in WORSHIP & PRAISE (with your voice, with your own expression, with your own heart & gratitude, out loud, etc.) this week, each day, and let me know how it goes.
QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF
- When could I spend some time in worship every day, even just me & God?
- When I am singing in worship, do I just sing along with a blank mind, or do I really express my own heart to God?
- Does my life/lifestyle represent this idea of glorifying Him in everything?
- What are some of my favorite Scriptures that have to do with worship?
- What are some of my favorite worship songs? When ask God WHY those might be some of your favorites?
- How could spending more time in worship help my relationship with God?
- How could spending more time in worship help ME personally?
SCRIPTURE
1 Chronicles 16:23-31 / John 4:21-24 / Psalm 29 / Psalm 99 / Psalm 100 / Revelation 4:8-11 /
QUOTES
“I can safely say, on the authority of all that is revealed in the Word of God, that any man or woman on this earth who is bored and turned off by worship is not ready for heaven.”—A.W. Tozer
“Next to the Word of God, music deserves the highest praise. The gift of language combined with the gift of song was given to man that he should proclaim the Word of God through music.”—Martin Luther
“There are no unique postures and times and limitations that restrict our access to God. My relationship with God is intimate and personal. The Christian does not go to the temple to worship. The Christian takes the temple with him or her. Jesus lifts us beyond the building and pays the human body the highest compliment by making it His dwelling place, the place where He meets with us.”—Ravi Zacharias
WEEKLY FOCUS
This week, read through each one of these Scriptures each morning.
Think about just how valuable it is to WORSHIP God on your own time.
Ask God if there are any areas you need to surrender or change in order to spend more time in worship with Him.
Let this theme guide your God time all week, and even your thoughts and conversation with Him through out your days, all week long.
Let Him speak to you about this idea of WORSHIP, and see what He says.
We’d love to hear your feedback, so hop into the devos conversation thread in SLACK & we’re excited to see what the Lord speaks to you this week.
BLESSINGS!
