WEEK 18 – LAY DOWN YOUR CROWNS
This week we’re talking about “Laying Down Your Crowns”.
5 years ago, I was leading my second mission trip in Fiji at the time, and one of our team members who was in charge of devotions that day asked us all to read Revelation 4 and to take some time to ask God about it and to journal what he said.
It was one of those moments that for no particular reason, the Spirit of God just decided to come on strong and really take me there.
Not physically per se, but it was definitely an unforgettable moment as I read Revelation 4 and the Spirit of God just downloaded to me this incredible scene that takes place.
John wrote Revelation based off of a vision the Lord gave Him 7 there is SOOOOO much to it, more than we even know really.
But Reveltion 4 is this incredible scene before the throne of God where the 24 elders are all dressed in white & gold & falling down before the Lord, lay their crowns down & worship Him.
And the picture he paints is that this is ongoing, always happening, just this super epic and beautiful and awe inspiring scene about the worthiness of our God.
But what stuck out to me was that they were laying down their crowns over and over.
The Lord spoke to me that we ALL have some crown that we need to lay down before the Lord.
Some are self-proclaimed crowns that we FOR SURE need to lay down & let go of.
But others may even be crowns that He himself gave us, like the 24 elders’ crowns.
But EVEN THOSE have got to come off and be laid at His feet. He’s JUST THAT WORTHY & INCREDIBLE.
But then, since those cross are the ones that Jesus gives them, it’s like they get back up again, he gives them back their crowns, and they do it all over again, constantly laying down their crowns before the Lord, constantly worshiping Him, constantly IN AWE of how majestic and amazing He is.
And ever aware that NOTHING compares to Him, not even the roles they have, nt even the GOLDEN CROWNS that He gave them.
Before this incredible God, they aren’t possessive about ANYTHING!
They’re not clinging to power. They’re not making excuses. They’re not gloating or boasting or comparing crowns with each other.
God is just SO AMAZING that they don’t even think twice, they rip off they’re crowns like they are nothing before God, and they extol Him the highest that they can because He’s JUST THAT AMAZING.
And so for us this week, let’s ask the Lord:
- What are some of the crowns that we wear that are self-proclaimed, and we should definitely take them off and let them burn up?
- What are some of the crowns that Jesus Himself has given you, that even those should be constantly placed before His feet in worship lifting Him higher that anything & everything?
I pray you have an encounter with Jesus this week as you focus on Revelation 4.
Let Him take you there. Study it all week & see what all He reveals to you.

Think about just how incredible this scene is and this idea of laying down your crowns.
Ask God if there are any areas you need to surrender or change in order to be able to truly lay down self-proclaimed, and even God-given crowns.
Let this theme guide your God time all week, and even your thoughts and conversation with Him through out your days, all week long.
