week 18 – Colossians 2 – “Get Your Christianity From Jesus”

This week we’re talking about COLOSSIANS 2.

It’s crazy to think, but there is a LOT of our Christianity that we get from a LOT of different places:

• • Pastors
  • sermons
  • church
  • friends
  • culture
  • what we’ve always been taught
  • our opinions
  • friends opinions
  • etc
  • etc
  • etc

The list could really go on.

But we have got to have a “Jesus Filter” or a “Holy Spirit Filter” inside of that we pass everything through.

Everything you hear at church, everything you even read from the Bible.

WHY?

Because our hearts sometimes read into things and hear differently than God’s heart. Sometimes just blatantly wrong, and sometimes just a shift He wants us to realize.

Sometimes He wants us to completely re-evaluate our opinions or actions and re-align with Scripture.

And sometimes He is simply asking you to do something specific.

Either way, Colossians 2 is making it SUPER clear that we can get into a mess of trouble without this type of filter, and without being intentional about what we put in.

Media, songs, TV, movies, and so much more.

Let’s give this whole space to the Lord this week as we study this chapter and see what else Jesus speaks to us.

QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF

1. What do you specifically hear from the Lord as you read Chapter 2 of Colossians?
   
2. Is there anything the Lord is ALREADy pointing at in your life that you feel He is saying you got from somewhere else other than Him?
   
3. Sometimes He speaks to us THROUGH some of these things, and that is great. What are some of the things that you hear from God through the most?
   
4. What are some places you may have learned some things that might not necessarily line up?
   
5. What would it look like to set up an internal “Jesus Filter” or “Holy Spirit Filter” in your life?
   
6. How would your media consumption change?
   
7. How would even your TRUTH consumption change?
