WEEK 22 – LET COMPASSION LEAD

This week we’re talking about letting compassion & faith lead instead of fear & hesitation.

Yes, we have GOT to start listening to the Holy Spirit more, FOR SURE.

But I find that we also KNOW what do do in a lot more situations than we think we do… we’re just too afraid to act on it.

Think about it, sometimes the Bible makes it very clear that Elijah heard something from God, then said it to the person God told him too.

Which in and of itself is INCREDIBLY INSPIRING to think that he literally heard FULL ON SENTENCES from the Lord.

I pray the Lord will tune our hearts to His voice like that so badly!

But there are other times when Elijah just seams to ACT, or REACT, or SPEAK, out of KNOWING GOD’S HEART, fully expecting in Faith for the Lord to come through on what He just said.

I think this is the Father’s heart anyways.

Dad tells you to clean your room a million times, not so that he always has to tell you to clean your room, but so that someday it becomes natural for you to just know to do it yourself.

I think our Heavenly Father is the same way. I think He always wants us to be listening to Him, but I also think that He wants us to get to know His heart & nature SO MUCH that we just KNOW that He would have compassion on this person, so we react out of His Compassion & get involved & heal them, or pray for them or whatever comes up.

NOW THAT TAKES FAITH!

Trusting that God will come through on what you just did or said because you KNOW His heart so much that you took the lead, acted out of compassion, and are trusting God to follow through with it.

THAT. TAKES. FAITH.

And I think that pleases God a lot more than us just waiting around to hear Him tell us what to do.

Paul even mentions it in 2 Thessalonians 1:11-12 – that God would “fulfill every good purpose of YOURS and every act prompted by YOUR FAITH.” Crazy!

Really more times than not, we don’t say or do because we didn’t hear God tell us what we should do… and that is our excuse to not have to do something scary, because then what if God doesn’t come through?

Well I totally know that fear, but that’s also not faith at all is it?

So the challenge this week, is to read through some of Elijah’s stories and notice this idea. And pray through with the Father about how you could step out of hesitancy & fear, and into compassion & faith.

QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF
  1. Does my hesitation to speak or act come out of listening to God telling me to wait & listen, or does it come out of fear & not acting from compassion?
  2. What are the situations in Scripture that lead Jesus to act out of compassion? List them out from the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, & John).
  3. What situations have happened recently that I totally could have just reacted out of God’s compassion instead of hesitating?
  4. What could I do next time differently that looks more like what Jesus does for those people he has compassion on?
SCRIPTURE

1 & 2 Kings / 2 Thessalonians 1:11-12 / The Gospels

WEEKLY FOCUS

This week, read through these Scriptures each morning.

Think about this idea of acting out of compassion.

Ask God if there are any areas you need to surrender or change in order to act out of compassion  & faith instead of fear.

Let this theme guide your God time all week, and even your thoughts and conversation with Him through out your days, all week long.

Let Him speak to you about this idea of compassion & faith, and see what He says.

We’d love to hear your feedback, so hop into the devos conversation thread in SLACK & we’re excited to see what the Lord speaks to you this week.

BLESSINGS!
