week 31 – JAMES 4 – All About The Kingdom & Not About This World

We’re so naturally focused on what we see.

But Scripture makes it clear that what we don’t see is actually way more important.

That we have got to fix our eyes on what is unseen.

Fix our eyes & hearts & minds on things above, not on earthly things.

All of this will fade away, but eternity with or without Jesus, that’s what will last forever.

So James here doesn’t hold anything back.

He wants Christians EVERYWHERE to know about this CRUCIAL SWITCH we’ve all got to make.

Let go of the world. Let go of “becoming something”. Let go of WANTING things so badly and having your eyes set on this world.

LOOK. AWAY.

Look at Jesus for a second. Look at eternity. Look at Heaven. Look at how temporary all this is. Look at how lasting all of that is.

Let go of your addiction to control & things & pleasure, and start to live life like it’s eternity that matters.

That will change EVERYTHING about the way you live.

You’ll treat people differently. You’ll pursue different things. You’ll even ask God for different things. Even HOW you ask will change. How you view the future, dreams, your calendar & schedule, even how you view God himself… everything will change for the better when you make this shift.

Allow God to do the heart surgery of removing the world from your focus & desires, and see how He takes a lot of your burdens away in the process.

Let’s study James 4 together and grow together in the slack community discussion on it under Weekly Bible Studies.

Don’t miss out on that discussion, it’s the best part of the week! See you in SLACK!

QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF
  1. What has ahold on your heart more, this world or eternity?
  2. Make 2 lists, the things in this world that it’s hard to let go of focusing on, and the things about Jesus & eternity & Heaven that you are super looking forward to.
  3. Compare your 2 lists for a little bit. In all honesty, which one is more valuable to you?
  4. James make a few different points & examples, make a bullet point list of his big idea here in chapter 4, then spend some time evaluating how you’re doing in those areas. Make any changes you feel the Holy Spirit is speaking to you about there.
  5. What is the biggest thing that needs to change first? Let’s chat about it in SLACK together.
SCRIPTURE

JAMES 4

WEEKLY FOCUS

This week, read through JAMES 4 as many times as you want to.

Think about the what God might be saying to you through it.

Ask God if there are any areas in your life that need some reshaping in order to ling up with this teaching.

Let this theme guide your God time all week, and even your thoughts and conversation with Him through out your days, all week long.

Let Him speak to you about this through out the week, and see what He says.

We’d love to hear your feedback/thoughts/questions, so hop into the Bible Studies conversation thread in SLACK & we’re excited to see what the Lord speaks to you this week.

BLESSINGS!
