WEEK 36 – NEW YEAR, NEW LIFESTYLE

Lots of people these days hate on goals and New Years Resolutions, but I am 100% not one of them.

I firmly believe in taking time to reflect, adjust, pray, set goals with the Lord, etc.

Without vision we all perish, so I love spending intentional time with the Lord getting His vision for our lives.

And ANY excuse to do that more, I’m all about it!

The problem with goals though is that we never set the RHYTHM they will fall into.

We just focus on some great ideated never actually look at our lives and decide what we’re going to stop or start, and WHERE & WHEN in our calendar and schedules that new pursuit will go.

That WHERE & WHEN is called a RHYTHM.

You’re not just setting a GOAL. You’re setting a NEW LIFESTYLE, a new RHYTHM of life.

So this time, get super intentional about setting goals & New Years Resolutions, yes.

But make sure you think about it in the light of RHYTHMS & LIFESTYLE.

Realize that you don’t just want to accomplish something for a short season and then “fal off the wagon again.”

It’s really a LIFESTYLE change that you’re after.

You’re wanting to fold that new way into your life & lifestyle, into your rhythm of life from this point forward.

So approach it like that. Decide the practical details of when you will do it, where you will do it, what you will change in your calendar or schedule to make room for it.

Whether it’s changing your eating habits, working out, reading Scripture & spending time with God, reading books, learning a new language or skill, or even just spending rest time like a weekly Sabbath or daily thinking time or personal growth time.

Whatever the Lord puts on your heart, make sure you set the WHEN & WHERE. Set the new RHYTHM. Don’t just set a goal. Fold it into your LIFESTYLE!

And the last thing is, always set some sort of review period where you can reevaluate your progress and recalibrate back on track if you’ve gotten off course, or even change the rhythm again if that’s what God is saying.

THAT’s where I totally agree that you don’t have to wait for New Years to change. AT LEAST do it monthly in some fashion. Weekly in some fashion. Maybe even quarterly in some fashion.

Jessica & I have a weekly Family Prayer Night where we let God speak to us and redirect us if He wants to (we don’t always sense or hear a redirection every week, but that’s a good thing, it’s more about connection and pursuit, and if you’re going to hear a redirection you’re going to want to be close enough to hear that, so that weekly pursuit time keeps us close for closeness sake, and for obedience sake for whatever He speaks to us.)

Then we have a monthly review night that is pretty similar except we actually look at our written goals & focuses for the year and make sure we’ve been staying calibrated, get back on track if we’ve strayed a little (or a lot), and even give room for adjusting course if that’s what God is speaking.

So New Years Resolutions becomes not just a once a year time for our only change to occur, but instead it becomes a great season for reflecting on the past year and getting vision for our focus moving forward.

The pressure for ALL the change to happen right then just isn’t there anymore because we are ALWAYS pursuing Jesus and have prayer nights and review nights in place where we can stay calibrated or adjust if need be.

But AGAIN, that stuff ONLY HAPPENS IF WE SET IT IN OUR CALENDAR!!!!!

You’ve just GOT TO SET THE RHYTM for things, or it’s never going to happen.

Not this time though, because you’re going to:

    1. hear from God
    2. set the goal
    3. And set the rhythm
    4. then you’re gong to set your review times through the year to stay calibrated or adjust based on what He’s saying.

THAT is how you stay close & keep growing my friends.

HAPPY NEW YEAR WORLD CHANGERS!

MAY 2019 BE A YEAR OF MAGNIFICENT GROWTH & TRANSFORMATION…

…IN YOUR LIVES, LIFESTYLES, PURSUITS AND CONNECTIONS WITH GOD, FAMILY, FRIENDS, & CHANGING THE WORLD WHERE HE SENDS YOU.

QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF
  1. When are you going to sit down with God and pray & set new goals & rhythms for 2019?
  2. What areas of life are you going to set new goals/rhythms for?
  3. What Scripture is God speaking over your year that you could write down & pray over your year, through out the year to keep it in front of you?
  4. What focus words is He speaking to you that you can write down, that will shape your year, prayers, & pursuits all year long?
  5. What specific goals or new rhythms are you hearing/sensing from God that He wants you to change/start/stop/pursue?
  6. What is the rhythm those will fit into? In other words, when are you going to do it (5am?7pm?)? And where are you going to do it (in your living room? garage? reading in bed?)
  7. When will you set a review in your schedule or calendar to make sure you’re staying calibrated and on track? (weekly? monthly? what dates? what times?)
SCRIPTURE

Proverbs 16:9

WEEKLY FOCUS

This week, read through these Scriptures each morning.

Think about this idea of SETTING NOT JUST GOALS, BUT NEW LIFE-GIVING RHYTHMS INTO YOUR LIFESTYLE.

Ask God if there are any areas you need to surrender or change in order to LIVE HOW HE WANTS YOU TO THIS YEAR.

Let this theme guide your God time all week, and even your thoughts and conversation with Him through out your days, all week long.

Let Him speak to you about this idea of LIFE-GIVING RHTHMS IN 2019, and see what He says.

We’d love to hear your feedback, so hop into the devos conversation thread in SLACK & we’re excited to see what the Lord speaks to you this week.

BLESSINGS!
