WEEK 57 – “Does Your Worship Cost You Something?”
One of my favorite people in all of Scripture (except for Jesus of course haha) is David!
There are a lot of reasons why I like him so much. But one of them is found at the very end of 2 Samuel.
It’s towards the very end of his life, and he is still so faithful to wanting to please God.
He goes to buy Araunah’s threshing floor so that he can build an altar to God on it.
Araunah is also awesome here, trying to give everything to King David for free.
I mean think about that. Stuff that took him a LONG time to build, acquire, pay for, work for in order to afford… and he just wants to give it all to King David for free.
It takes a LOT to want to give someone something for free, especially something like this.
And even with all of that, David absolutely INSISTS that he pays for it.
The verse is 2 Samuel 24:24… “No, I insist on paying you for it.”…
And here it is, the highlight of the whole story.
“I WILL NOT SACRIFICE TO THE LORD MY GOD BURNT OFFERINGS THAT COST ME NOTHING.”
WOW!
There is so much that we can learn from this.
