WEEK 26 – INTERRUPTIBLE
One of the characteristics of Jesus that’s not talked about much, but non-the-less strikes me as totally worth talking about, AND duplicating in our own lives, is the fact that he was interruptible.
He considered other people’s problems and issues worth His time
He literally stopped what He was doing when He was interrupted by pother people, to listen, go with them, meet their needs, change His schedule, etc.
It was amazing.
There are too many instances in Scripture to mention here, but the biggest one I think of was in MATTHEW 14 right after he learned that John The Baptist was beheaded. The very next verse says this:
Matthew 14:13-14 “When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns. When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick”
WHAT!?
That is amazing. I mean the guy just found out that his cousin was literally just beheaded, he get in a boat to go off by himself to pray and mourn, and a whole mob finds out where he’s going.
Instead of getting upset He HAS COMPASSION ON THEM, and He heals their sick.
THEN he spends however long it takes to do THE FEEDING OF THE FIVE THOUSAND.
That’s the context for that story. Ya it’s amazing that He feeds five thousand people, plus women and children, miraculously with one little lunch… that miracle is amazing.
But I think His display of love and compassion is equally amazing. To be THAT interruptible and others focused, in the middle of your own tragedy, that’s Christ-like character worth taking note of.
And I love what happens next…
Matthew 14:22-23 “Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray.”
There it is.
Not only was Jesus interruptible, but he was SO devoted to spending time with the Father, that even after a long day of ministry, after getting interrupted, after pouring out and pouring out, He STILL stole away to be with the Father late into the night.
Lord, use the intricacies of the stories recorded in Scripture to show us who you are. Shape us and mold us more into your likeness. Use us to heal, to feed, to love, and burn in us a passion for time alone with you like Jesus showed us.
QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF
- Honestly, how do you think you would have responded if you went away to mourn and a crowd had followed you?
- What type of perspective do you think Jesus had to have as His default to be able to have compassion on them in the midst of His own tragedy?
- How could you move towards that kind of default, that kind of action… what would have to happen inside of you?
- How would you rate your desire to spend time alone with the Father on a scale of 1-10?
- Pray and ask the Lord to do a work in you to make you more like Him in these 2 areas

WEEKLY FOCUS
This week, read through these Scriptures each morning.
Think about this idea of being INTERRUPTIBLE.
Ask God if there are any areas you need to surrender or change in order to become more like Jesus in this way?
Let this theme guide your God time all week, and even your thoughts and conversation with Him through out your days, all week long.
Let Him speak to you about this idea of being INTERRUPTIBLE & HAVING A PASSION FOR TIME ALONE WITH HIM, and see what He says.
We’d love to hear your feedback, so hop into the devos conversation thread in SLACK & we’re excited to see what the Lord speaks to you this week.
BLESSINGS!
